I am Majo Salgado,
based in New York City, studying Data Science and Computer Science at Courant Institute of Mathematical Science in New York University. Committed to statistical analysis, engineering, and the belief in the synergy between science and economic growth, as well as the influence of the private sector.
Academic and Research Experience
I am an undergraduate student at Courant Institute of Mathematical Studies and the Center for Data Science in New York University.
During my time at NYU, I have been a contributor at the NYU Stern Economic Development Club, also known as EDG. I worked as an Economic Researcher in the team and currently translating this to ASTRA, the consulting team.
During this time, I’ve completed a Machine Learning Specialization taught by Andrew Ng from Stanford University during the Summer of 2024.
Currently participating in the AI4ALL Ignite program apart of the NLP team, where I am contributing on the development of projects using natural language processing.
In 2021 I graduated as the valedictorian from High School from the Colegio Colombo Británico in Cali, Colombia. I took the International Baccalaureate taking Chemistry, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, and Global Politics. Complemented with the Colombian National Program.
After graduating High School, I went for two semester to the Institute de Langue et Culture Frances at the Université Catholique de Lyon in France to study the French Language and Culture. I had the opportunity of living with a french family during this time.
Industry and Entrepreneurial Experience
In parallel with my studies I work the the NYU Phonathon. Here, I’ve developed and enhanced my communication and fundraising skills by engaging alumni and contributing to university outreach.
In Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 I was studying the NYU Tandon School of Engineering were I funded The New Era, a start-up, for the Rapid Assembly Design Competition (RAD). Our flagship product, Antinillo, is an anti-smoking ring that leverages advanced data collection and analysis to help individuals quit smoking.
In Summer of 2023 I participated in the Goldman Sachs, Emerging Leader Series and Insights Series.
When I am not studying or working I enjoy:
Spending some time in New York and Colombia.
Running (currently vice-president of the NYU Running Club), playing golf (15 years of experience), Cycling, and hiking.
Photographing my surroundings.
And enjoying finding new places to eat and learning about different cultures through travel.
Languages
Spanish, English, studied French, and trying to study a bit of Chinese everyday with Duolingo and friends.
